Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a different kind of footballer, one with a huge ego, biting retorts and the strength to back it up. Now, he has issued an apology to Manchester United fans for not coming to the club sooner.
Zlatan who joined Manchester United two years ago aged 34 after already playing for Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan and PSG issued the apology and said that they’d have seen “a different lion” if he’d got to the club sooner.
The striker netted 28 goals in 46 appearances for Man United, but a serious knee injury sustained in a Europa League quarter-final tie against Anderlecht prematurely ended his season
Speaking to the Manchester United website, he said “I feel sorry for the fans – if they’d seen me younger, they’d have seen a different lion, for the Premier League, it would have been dangerous, as I would have eaten them for breakfast; instead, I took them for lunch. But I came: they wanted me, I gave them me and I took over. Been there and done that.
“I would need more time to explain my feelings but let’s start with a big thanks to everybody – what they did was amazing and I hope they are as happy as I am.”
Zlatan was an icon for the United fans and inspiration for his teammates. It is hard to see a player capture the hearts of many in just 53 appearances. He now plays for MLS side LA Galaxy.
