With the big-money arrival of Alisson to Liverpool, Simon Mignolet is looking set to depart in search of greener pastures after falling behind Alisson and Loris Karius in the pecking order.
The Belgian lost his place between the sticks to Karius last season after some horrendous displays and the arrival of Alisson from Roma in a world-record deal is set to further displace the 30-year old.
Liverpool sold goalkeeper Danny ward to Leicester City in a move that exceeded £12 million and will be looking to cash in on Mignolet if the right offer arrives. The goalkeeper’s camp are also reported to be looking for a destination with Barcelona already touted as potential suitors.
Jasper Cillessen who has played second fiddle to Ter Stegen might depart this summer and the Blaugrana are said to be keeping tabs on Mignolet in case the Dutchman does move.
Speaking to Belgian news outlet Walfoot, Mignolet’s representative said “It doesn’t change the situation [Alisson’s arrival]. Our goal is to find a solution for Simon to play and Alisson’s arrival doesn’t change that. We know that a player of €60-70million won’t find himself on the bench.
“We are looking at the situation and looking for a solution to his playing time. There are options, the next few days will be decisive.”
Simon Mignolet himself hinted at a move away from Liverpool when speaking to the media during the World Cup. He said “I didn’t play in the last few months at Liverpool, so after the World Cup I will look at everything. I can’t say much more.”
The 30-year old has made 200 appearances for the Reds across five seasons.
