Yann Sommer in ‘advanced talks to join Arsenal’

Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Yann Sommer, according to reports from Spain, writes Mirror Football’s Jake Polden.

Unai Emery has already made five signings this summer as he looks to take the Gunners in a new direction during his first season in charge of the north London club.

One of the five players he has signed is goalkeeper Bernd Leno, meaning the club now have three shot-stoppers – Petr Cech and David Ospina included – capable of commanding the number one role next season.

Cech has been linked with a move back to Chelsea in recent weeks, as Real Madrid step up their pursuit of the Blues’ number one Thibaut Courtois.

While Ospina – the least likely of the three to be Arsenal’s first choice keeper this season – is keen on securing regular football elsewhere.

According to Spanish publication Marca, Emery has identified Sommer – who performed remarkably well for Switzerland in the World Cup – as the perfect man to keep Leno on his toes, and do a job at Arsenal.

And the paper is reporting that the club are in an advanced stage to land him.
