Iwobi put pen to paper on a four-year deal that will extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium till 2022.
The Nigeria international has signed a long-term extension at Arsenal putting to bed talks of a departure from North London.
The promising youngster joined Arsenal at nine years of age going on to make his first team debut in 2015. Nine goals in ninety-eight appearances have followed ever since.
The 22-year old was full of excitement having penned down a new deal with his boyhood club.
During his signing presentation, Iwobi told Arsenal media:
“It’s always been my childhood dream to represent Arsenal, from young,”
“To get an extended contract is an amazing feeling and I hope I’m doing the Arsenal family proud as well as my family.
“It feels so special. The first kit I had was Arsenal and long may I continue to represent them.”
Arsenal manager Unai Emery spoke of his excitement that the club was able to get the deal over the line after weeks of discussions and hoped more youth players would follow Iwobi’s footsteps.
“I’m very pleased Alex has signed a new contract with us,” the manager said.
“He is a great example of a player who can succeed from the Academy through hard work and I look forward to working with him and our other talented young players in the squad.”
Iwobi has been previously linked with a switch to the Serie A earlier this summer but the Nigerian midfielder is now expected to remain at the Emirates for another four years.
Nephew to Super Eagles legend Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Alex Iwobi has featured twenty-one times for the national team contributing five goals.
