Wilfried Zaha renews Palace contract amid transfer speculations


Crystal Palace and Ivory Coast winger Wilfried Zaha has extended his stay at Selhurst Park despite speculations surrounding his future with the Premier League outfit.

Zaha has been subject to a switch away from the London-based club with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur desperate to take the tricky attacker away from Selhurst Park.

Zaha enjoyed an impressive run of form with Crystal Palace last season playing an integral role to steer Roy Hodgson’s side away from relegation following a spell on the sidelines.

The 25-year old scored a personal best nine league goals and went on to win the club’s Player of the Award for the third season in a row.

His superb form saw him linked to a move away from the Eagles with bigger Premier League sides desperate to secure his signature this summer.

Zaha has however brought an end to speculation regarding his future by renewing his contract with Palace nearly a week after the end of the EPL summer transfer window.

He has extended his stay at Selhurst Park by putting pen to paper on a five year deal that will see him stay at the club till the 2022-2023 season.

The Crystal Palace youth product expressed his delight in a club statement.

“I’m very pleased. Obviously, I just wanted to get it over and done with, so I can just focus on the season,”

“I’m buzzing that we managed to get it sorted.”

Chairman Steve Parrish added: “Wilf grew up a stone’s throw from Selhurst Park from the age of four, and has been with the club since he was 12. This agreement is yet another example of his lifelong commitment to the club, and our commitment to him.

“This is an amazing day for everyone here at Palace, our supporters and of course Wilf – and is richly deserved.”

The Ivory Coast international has started the 2018-2019 season with a bang, netting in Palace’s 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.

His goal tied Zaha as Crystal Palace’s joint highest goalscorer in the history of the English Premier League.
