One of Arsenal scouts, Gilles Grimandi revealed that Arsenal tracked Thuavin during his younger years, and he believes he would have been a regular Arsenal player if the transfer had pulled through.
At that time, the French forward was playing for the Chateauroux’s youth system at Bastia, Arsenal followed his progress but nothing official materialized.
Although that’s in the past, Arsenal scout Grimandi belives the Marseille striker would have been a member of the Arsenal starting eleven if his move to the North London side came through.
While talking to the media, he said: “Arsenal were scouting him when he was at Bastia and we were following him closely at the time. After he moved, he wasn’t at the same level.
“Today, at Arsenal, he would play.”
The Marseille forward was part of the France team that conquered the world this summer although he had little playing time.
The Arsenal scout also admitted that the 25-year old attacker might not be able to draw interests from top clubs at the level he’s playing now.
“He’ll be 26 soon, so his hopes to play for a top club are very limited,” Grimandi said.
At the moment, Thuavin is red-hot for Marseille in the Ligue 1, having netted six goals and assisted one in the first eight games of the league.
