Jose Mourinho, What You See Is What You Get

Many people are criticising Jose Mourinho’s tactics and his “negative football” but doing that would be denying the man of his greatness because Manchester United’s predicament is not his fault.

Jose Mourinho and Manchester United is just a case of two people with different tastes and needs being in a relationship, a toxic relationship.

Manchester United still searching for a long-term manager that plays attacking football, decided to settle for Jose Mourinho, a man who plays highly defensive football and known for short term stints at clubs.

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho were never compatible, to be sincere, it seems the Manchester United board hurriedly went for Mourinho simply because their blue neighbours had secured the services of Pep Guardiola.

The trophies won under Mourinho only helped temporarily seal the cracks that are visible now as the other Premier League sides have started playing good attractive and attacking football while the Red Devils suffer.

Mourinho was never supposed to be the one that will change his style from the defensive game just to get Manchester United going, Mourinho is the one that wins trophies at all cost. His transfer policy of wanting to get only old experienced or physical players instead of relying completely on youngsters makes it all known

Now he is tasked with the job of changing his style of play, has minimum finincial support from the board and it is making him look like a novice, the result is Manchester United in 8th position.

Like former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel Put it, “It’s not Jose Mourinho’s fault.”

“If you get him, you know what you get,” Babbel – now head coach of A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia – told Omnisport.

“Everyone is surprised they’re not playing attacking football. This is not Mourinho. Mourinho is defensive and to win trophies. To be fair, he did it up until now.

“For me, the problem is the directors in the office because they decided to take him. Now they’re not doing what he wants or trusting him.

“Even Manchester United don’t know what they want. It’s fully crazy, I can’t believe it.

“United were always offensive football. Great passing and great offensive players. It’s not Mourinho’s fault they appointed him. It’s the first mistake the club made.

“Now it’s a big surprise they’re not playing attacking football. I have a laugh. At this level, to make these mistakes is unbelievable.”

For Manchester United, it is either they give Mourinho more money to get the players he wants or they give him more time to change his tactics. It is hard for an old dog to learn new tricks.
