Kylian Mbappe scored four goals in the space of 13 minutes during Paris Saint-Germain’s thrashing of Lyon in the French Ligue 1.
PSG came out as 5-0 victors over Lyon wherein Mbappe made the headlines with his second-half haul.
The game marked the first home league outing for the forward ever since his three matches suspension following a red card against Nimes Olympique last month.
Before the half-time break, Neymar Jnr had given the Parisians a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot. But that was entirely overshadowed by the magical Mbappe in the second half.
Neymar was influential in three of the forward’s goals. He assisted two of the goals while the third was a rebound that fell kindly in the path of Mbappe to slam into the net. The other goal was a stinging shot in response to Marquinhos cross.
As a result, the French striker became the youngest player at age 19 years 9 months to score four goals in a single Ligue 1 match for the first time in 45 years.
He also becomes the first player to score the same number of goals in such quick successions over the same time frame.
“I missed some opportunities yes, and I should have scored more goals, but that’s normal,” said the 2018 World Cup Golden Boy prize winner.
“It’s part of the steps that I have to go through, to really get to the top. But I will work.
“My teammates have supported me a lot. I never doubt tonight. Because for a striker, as long as opportunities are created for me, everything is fine.
“I knew that if I made the right gesture it would come back and my teammates gave me lots of good balls. That’s why I could score so many tonight.”
PSG now have nine wins in as many matches played in the French Ligue 1 this season. Thomas Tuchel’s side’s the first to achieve such feat in the history of the Ligue 1.
