Romelu Lukaku has seen a dip in form lately scoring only four goals this season but Mourinho has stuck with the big man up front to the detriment of Rashford and Manchester United in general.
While Manchester United midfield is nothing to write home about, the Belgian’s decision to remain upfront and not move back in some games has been criticised and his body language is nothing to write home about.
Rashford is competing against Lukaku for the central striker position and his pace, moves and touches are really needed. There are suggestions that the Belgian who has a horrible first touch can move to the right where he can cause more damages with his left foot should he cut in.
Craig Burley, a former Chelsea player has echoed same thoughts when he told ESPN FC “Marcus Rashford needs to get more game time. He’s a young guy with pace who’s prepared to try things.
“I’ll tell you what, if Romelu Lukaku is not playing well, and he’s not, and he’s not making the right runs and he’s not holding the ball up, get him out of the side.
“Play Rashford through the middle in his proper position, as a striker, that’s what he is.
“He’s a clever young player who’s quick and prepared to try things.
“There is no point sitting grumbling about your players not playing well, when you are playing him out of position, get him in the side.
“Don’t leave Lukaku in just because you paid big money for him, it doesn’t matter.”
Lukaku’s performance against Valencia was also questioned by former United stars Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes.
“Lukaku is so easy to mark at the minute, he’s static,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport after the game.
“He needs to make defenders think, he needs to start moving in behind, making your defender change position and change eyeline.”
Scholes added: “I don’t think these players realise how much of a threat they can be. Look at the size of him, how quick he is.
“As Rio said, he’s just so static, he’s easy to play against. We could have played centre-half against him tonight.”
Lukaku moved to United for an initial £75m two summer’s ago and has scored 31 goals in 61 games for the club in all competitions.
Rashford has performed admirably at times from out wide and weighed in with 33 goals in 129 games but he needs the central position right now to contribute more.
There have been calls for the Young Englishman to put his career and playing time ahead of his love for the club and he has been advised to move somewhere else since Mourinho will never play him ahead of Lukaku
